Lucky I Guess
I think about the two major events (championships) that I attended, Super Bowl XXXI and NASCAR 2023 Championship race. For both events I had a favorite team/driver and in both incidences I was able to witness a win. Of course the Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XXXI. Also, when I went to the NASCAR Championship race in Phoenix in 2023, I was a big fan of Ryan Blaney. At the time it was highest place finisher of the 4 Championship racers that won the championship. Ryan didn't win the race, but placed 2nd and that won him the championship. |
Space Shuttle
Although I have always had an interest in the space program, was able to witness the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Space Shuttle program was always special to me. I believe as I was stationed in FLorida during it formative years is why I became so interested. In 1981 my parents did a Florida vacation that I joined and during a visit to the Kennedy Space Center, we were able to see the first shuttle Colombia on the launch pad before the launch. I have always cherished the picture I took that day. Also, in 1996 I was able to view the launch of STs-79 Atlantis shuttle. I was about 5 miles away and I still remember seeing the light (it was an early morning launch) and then it taking a while for the rumble to hit me. |

On January 28, 1986 I was working at a future nursing home in Appleton installing glass. For lunch we went to Mary's Family Restaurant on Richmond Street and as we walked into the restaurant the shuttle Challenger explosion was on all the TV's. It was gut-wrenching to see and has always had an affect on me.

9/11
Who hasn't been affected by the events on September 11, 2001? I was driving into work (Earth Tech, Sheboygan) and was told of what was happening in New York City at that moment. I drove the rest of the way and when I got to work, people were working to get a TV working in order to turn the news on. When we finally got it working, we were shocked at what had happened already and wondering how the world was going to change after that. I do remember watching when the towers fell and how devastated I felt. |

Covid-19
Who could forget the debacle of Covid-19? I had just been divorced and purchased my house and had just moved in before the pandemic really took hold of the country. I heard of stories of couples getting divorced and needing to sell house when it hit and were forced to live together until the World started moving again, that would have been a nightmare! I do think society showed its worse; the hoarding, price gouging, neglecting people and the just overall lack of sympathy. I became my dad's grocery shopper, he would make the same list every time and I remember being able to go through Pick n' Save blindfolded, knowing the store so good.There was also the idiocy of the society as a whole. Remember the plexiglass hung all over the place, arrows placed in store aisles so that you didn't cross paths with others, being denied entry without a mask.
My mother was in the nursing home at the time and it became a nightmare to visit her. They wanted us to only go to her window, which with her demetia would have created a very bad situation. Also, she tested positive five times for the virus and yet never showed one symptom.
MH370
A recent mystery, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which occured on March 8, 2014. So many questions and so many issues. How does an airplane that big just disappear. I know it's a big, deep ocean, but in today's world, how. In my opinion, it was all orchestracted by the pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah, he turned off communications and had practiced the same flight on a home flight simulator. |

A hope that I always have is after I die that in Heaven is a book of all the mysteries explained. What really happened at the John F Kennedy assasination (so many things, Lee Harvey Oswald, other shooter, the Grassy Knoll, JFK's autopsy)? Where is Amelia Earhart? Was Marilyn Monroe murdered? Where is Jimmy Hoffa? Who was Jack the Ripper? Did Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin make it off "The Rock" (Alcatraz Prison)? Was there really an event at Roswell New Mexico? D.B. Cooper? What happened at Dyatlov Pass in the Ural Mountains? Was there really Blackbeard's Treasure and if so, where is it? Who was the Zodiac killer? What happened to the colonists at Roanoke Island? An explaination of the Big Bang Theory? What happened on the Mary Celeste ship? Who killed Elizabeth Short (Black Dahlia)? Did Lizzie Borden wield the axe? Does the Amber Room still exist? AND of course, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
